'We learnt about the importance of fossils, how they are formed and looked at what they told us about our history. Each child made a model of a fossil using clay, plaster of Paris, sand and a shell to act as the mould. Once they had dried, we had to carefully excavate the fossils without damaging them using tools. We could then take out the plaster which had formed our fossil and look at the shapes that had been left behind from the imprint of the shell.'
