Maltby School Lands Foundation Celebration Event

Celebrating 300 years of the Maltby School Lands Foundation.

The Maltby Learning Community, together with dignitaries from the Maltby School Lands Foundation and Lord Scarbrough came together to celebrate the 300 year anniversary of the Maltby School Lands Foundation.

The Maltby School Lands Foundation was founded in 1714 by Viscount Castleton of Sandbeck to provide an education for the young people of Maltby. Viscount Castleton agreed to set aside 12 acres of common land to provide for a school master to be placed in Maltby to educate young people in English and arithmetic. Over time, the foundation grew, providing education to larger groups of young people. In 1921 the present statutes of the foundation were drawn up supporting the schools of Maltby by donating money on a regular basis.

This celebration event took place in the Business and Enterprise Centre at Maltby Academy and included a welcome by the Maltby Academy Principal, Mr D. Sutton, presentation by Mr Ron Buck from the Maltby School Lands Foundation and a presentation of commemorative plaques to the schools. Year 11, MA student, Annie Fuller also performed at the event. It was a fantastic morning remembering and celebrating the foundation.
