There are three main strands to music – singing, listening and playing. Children are taught a selection of songs appropriate to their age group. These include hymns, traditional songs from other lands and cultures and songs from former times as well as modern songs.
Children are encouraged to develop an awareness of the different effects of instruments used in music, as well as to give a thoughtful and sensitive response to recorded music.
Music can be taught within the creative curriculum or discreetly using the Music Express resources.
We have strong links with the local Music Service and Y3 children currently have the opportunity to learn how to play the ukulele. We also give children opportunities to perform with other children in the area by taking part in singing concerts such as Young Voices, One Voice, Maltby Learning Trust performances and the Pioneer musical.
